Friendship Requires Truth

Real friends always tell you the truth, even when you don’t want to hear it and it hurts you to hear it. That’s why I love Candie Flores, she has always told me the truth about myself even when I did not want to hear it and I’ve done the same for her. Sometimes that means we fight and don’t talk for a few days, but in the end we always are friends, in fact we are sisters. We will always be in each other’s lives no matter what. THAT is friendship, no one person kissing the others ass and always agreeing with them. That is selfish and false friendships. Surrounding ourselves with people who only agree with us is an easy way to set ourselves up for failure, if you don’t believe me look at history at people who did that like Hitler, Saddam and Osama. When we don’t allow people to disagree with us and they only agree with us in fear of being unfriended we put ourselves on a very unrealistic platform.

Matthew 23:11-12

11 The greatest among you must be your servant.

12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

And for the record it’s not only rule followers who can be pharisees anyone who says they are one thing ,that they believe in something, yet mock what they claim to be and believe in. Doing this is pretty much doing the same thing that the pharisees were doing, which is why Jesus scolded them. They spoke something with their lips that they didn’t practice in faith. THAT was why Jesus had a problem with them, not because they knew the law and followed it.

A true friendship always involves telling the truth. If you hold truth back for the sake of the friendship then it is not a true friendship. If I saw Candie walking across the street into incoming traffic and stood by and said, “Well it’s her right to walk across and I’m not going to tell her not to do it because that would be imposing my beliefs on her”, what kind of a friend would I be? Now if I told her not to cross the street and she heard me and did it anyway, then that is her choice. But to never say anything is irresponsible.

I am a friend, sometimes not a very good one. I’m not a good Catholic either, but I try. God doesn’t ask for perfection, he knows we are not going to be perfect he only asks us to try. The Good news is He is there to pick us up when we fall, He is there to console us when we cry and He never gives up on us. Which makes it easier for us to never give up on one another, no matter what we disagree on.

Galatians 6 1-10

1Brothers, even if a person is caught in some transgression, you who are spiritual should correct that one in a gentle spirit, looking to yourself, so that you also may not be tempted.

2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so you will fulfill the law of Christ.*

3 For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he is deluding himself.

4* Each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason to boast with regard to himself alone, and not with regard to someone else;

5 for each will bear his own load.

6 One who is being instructed in the word should share all good things with his instructor.*

7 Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows,

8 because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit.

9 Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up

10 So then, while we have the opportunity, let us do good to all, but especially to those who belong to the family of the faith.

Glory be to God forever.
